One of my particular dislikes is when film or photos taken of U. F. O’s are confiscated or destroyed by the authorities. Some years ago many U.F.O enthusiasts and curious onlookers would gather in the Warminster [Wiltshire, England -fs] area, where sightings had been reported.
You gradually get to know people by sight and some you get to know very well through sharing stories and opinions of what the U.F.O phenomena actually is.
I always watch for anyone behaving out of the ordinary, and one particular guy would stand away and never mix, and I once followed him when he left a scene of several reported sightings.
I was perturbed that he had parked his car about half a mile away, and while walking back used several anti-surveillance tactics to throw off any pursuers.
I would wait for this guy at these venues where reported sightings brought out those hoping for a sighting, and made mental note of the behaviour patterns, taught by British Intelligence that would give some indication of what he was about.
One cold November evening in the mid seventies, I followed him home at a discreet distance.
In the morning I watched for him to go to work. He wore a collar and tie, so he was a desk jockey of some sort and I again followed him, to some kind of government office.
At a gathering place in the Cotswolds the next week he turned up again and I discreetly took photos of him. There were many cameras in case of a sighting so no one was interested in me with one around my neck
I watched him go to work next day and stopped the postman saying, “Excuse me does Mr. Colman live at number 8?“
His reply was to give me the correct name of the man who lived there, so now I knew his name, to add to everything else.
That night I knocked on his door and asked if I could speak to him.
When I showed him the photos, told him a little about himself and said he was some sort of government snooper, and I could expose and humiliate him unless he told me what was going on.
This guy who I called “Baz” was in fact from the M.O.D. which issues statements to the press ridiculing sightings, but he agreed for my silence to give me some information from the files.
He said his job was to observe the people who came to watch, take their car numbers and write reports, and to see internal checks were done on the people there, and monitor particularly what they did for a living and with whom they mixed.
What came out over the coming weeks shocked me deeply, the lengths the officials would go to discredit the sightings, and sightees, including anonymous mocking phone calls to employers and families doubting their sanity etc.
It often amuses me that people think we live in a democracy, far from it.
The M.O.D can bring in interrogators from Di55 [Defence Intelligence 55 -fs] to dissuade people reporting sightings under threat of fear or ridicule, and particularly the R.A.F was leant on and told never to allow access to written reports, or allow publicity to any report.
Baz himself had to be leant on, and he said he did not like the dirty tricks department, nor its methods such as doctoring and filtering of statements prior to going to the Public Records dept. and for the Freedom of Information Act.
Strangely the U.S.A.F bases in Britain are not as hostile to enquiries, and will often give off the record little nuggets of info, which would delight them when I would give credit during a talk to the helpful U.S.A.F and point to them in the front row at my talks and lectures.
Researchers putting in a net search for U. F. O’s have been intentionally fooled by the ministry changing to the term, U.A.P for Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.
Part of what Baz showed me were confiscated photos and reports, that although officially were rubbished as reflections of the moon or similar, were actually officially taken quite seriously.
These government bodies who are supposed to work for the people, would lie to them day in day out, it was this dishonesty that left a bad taste in my mouth.
My advice is when you take photos or film, get it developed privately and keep copies somewhere safe at a friend’s house like I did because there will be covert searches if the pics are very good.
In short trust no one, particularly not a bank manager, because the intelligence bodies do pressure them to open up any security boxes and they will.
The M.O.D has promised to release less doctored statements in the near future and for this we can largely thank Gary Mckinnon.
As I end every talk on these subjects;
“ I keep nothing at my home, so don’t bother to come looking”
