   CHINA UFO SYNDROME
  Posted Nov 03.05

A huge country with an enormous population, it's therefore not surprising that modern China, like the rest of the world, would have an ongoing interest in UFOs and extraterrestrial visitation. As a consequence, hardly a week goes by without someone, somewhere, reporting a UFO and usually supporting their sighting with pictures. China may be fast growing in terms of sophistication and technology, but much of its population remains relatively rural and is less so. Highly superstitious and with a remarkable history measured in thousands of years, much of China's communities remain seperated from the influence of world events; except for those that now live and work in its many dynamic new cities. However, the UFO and its ancestral counterpart, the fiery flying dragon, are certainly no strangers to Chinese society. - fs

October 7 - Quindo
This strange phenomenon [above] was photographed in the sky over Quindo. It vanished mysteriously after only 15-20 seconds.

October 8 - Tongren City, Guizhou Province
A group of 12 children arrived at the school drill ground around 19:00hrs that evening where they saw a shining unidentified flying object moving irregularly in the night sky. The pupils reported that it was much brighter than a star and during the next 20 minutes, it appeared and disappeared on several occasions. A student ran home to collect a video camera and was able to film the object for nearly seven minutes.

October 10 - Tongren City, Guizhou Province
A father of two of the boys, 43 year-old Zhou Guo'an, was himself a witness to a similar UFO after one of his children watching for it from a rooftop, raised the alarm. Grabbing a video camera they were able to tape the object for some six minutes.

The appearance of this anomaly in the skies over Tongren has aroused the interest of many residents. Some recalled that only four years earlier another unidentified flying object had appeared in local skies, although this time the object filmed seems to have been much bigger.

October 22 - Ningbo
During the afternoon, at around 16:40hrs, Mr.Hu and his daughter were out on their balcony when they both noticed a black spot moving slowly north through the sky above them. It was so strange that at first he thought it was an illusion but he looked carefully again and saw what was a dark rectangular outline with clearly defined edges. The object looked flat and thin and was visible for perhaps several dozen minutes, before poor weather caused it to vanish in the dim light of night. Thinking it may have been a UFO, Mr.Hu then contacted the Chinese Ningbo net news and a reporter visited the following day in order to examine the picture.

After a city astronomy association's special village teacher had listened to reporter's description, she was quite interested in this discovery. The association had earlier received similar material from many other concerned residents but an examination of the photo confirmed that it was probably a high-flying kite. Its altitude, flight and reflection contrinuting to produced the illusion; certainly it was unlikely to have been a UFO.

October 26 - Jiangxi Yingtan
At around 18:00hrs, residents were startled by the presence of a bright light in the sky. Eyewitnesses reported that the shining object appeared metallic to the naked eye. Many thought it could have been a low-flying orbiting vehicle, while some believed it was a UFO. After two minutes the light vanished rapidly towards the southwest.

October 27 - Guangzhou
Retiring to bed at around 23:10hrs this night, eyewitness Miss Chen says she lay down and looked out the window to see four bright white lights, about the size of the moon, circling in the sky. Out of curiosity she walked onto the balcony for a closure look. After half and hour the lights exchanged position as they fluttered together in the northern sky. Following them closely, she then saw one pair enter a cloud layer while the remaining two eventually disappeared into dark cloud.

Some 40 minutes earlier [22:30hrs] Mr. Wang, who had just finished working overtime and was sitting on a house roof with co-workers, spotted four objects in a loose formation in the sky. Some would move, while others remained stationary, as some form of pursuit appeared to take place. The UFOs then paused for half an hour, before gradually entering the cloud layer. M.Wang added that both his spouse and his wife's mother all saw the objects and that everyone was excited by the event.

The newspaper that carried the report consulted with an astronomer, who suggested that what the observers saw might have been an atmospheric phenomenon, perhaps caused by a falling meteor passing through the earth's atmoshere and generating friction. While more likely recent weather changes in the rainstorm season could have introduced cold air to form a unique cloud and what seemed oddly moving lights.

October 28 - Qingdao
What appeared to be a dazzling luminescent sphere, several times larger than a star, was seen hovering almost motionless over a local television tower at around 17:50hrs, according to an eyewitness. Mr.Wei, who watched the phenomenon for the next hour, said that during this time he was able to photograph and examine the orb closely using a telescope and discovered that it was towing "a tail".

Mr.Wei said that the object finally drifted away to the west, adding, "I have lived for 19 years here, and this is the first time I saw the nearby television tower with this kind of luminescent spot."

In an effort to determine if the light was an aircraft, satellite or the fabled UFO, a local news reporter interviewed Qingdao engineer Sun Lina. After she carefully listened to a description, suggesting the anomaly might possibly have been a balloon reflection or the planet Venus, Sun Lina indicated that the current track of Venus would not have placed its elevation so high. However, on the following evening, Mr.Wei says the UFO mad its second return.
